I did a multi-author event earlier this year and sold exactly one book in about four hours. Was it a waste of time?
No, because…
One of the other vendors I met was from Tomorrow Bookstore in Indianapolis. They told me they regularly host local author appearances in their store and that I should check it out. So I signed up and did it last month.
The appearance went well. In just two hours I tied for my best day ever (a much longer day at the Columbus ComicCon, also earlier this year.) The store manager liked me and informed me I’d be welcomed back, which I’ll try when my next book releases. (SOON!)
A couple days later I got an email from a news program producer in Indianapolis. They got my contact info from the bookstore, and wanted to book me for an on-air interview later this month. I’m scheduled to appear during the five o’clock hour on the “I Love to Read” segment for WISH-TV on July 28.
(I haven’t started to freak out about this yet. It’s still a couple of weeks off. But I have no doubt I will get there, eventually.)
The moral of this diatribe is that you never know how any given appearance will turn out.
