As I mentioned earlier, I booked an appearance on the WISH-TV “I Love to Read” segment.
They asked me to show up no later than 3:45pm for the live appearance. I got there around 2pm. The receptionist logged me in and took me to the Green Room to wait.
FYI There wasn’t anything green in the Green Room except for two plants.
I brought a book, so I sat in front of the large-screen TV (sound tuned low) and read for a while. Somewhere around 4pm I glanced up to see my book cover on screen – it was a promo for the upcoming interview. That was cool!
Eventually someone came to fetch me. I followed them into the studio where I met the anchors, Marlee and Cody. We sat and watched the recorded interview with John Schneider (of Dukes of Hazzard fame) playing on a monitor. Just before it ended, they wired me for a microphone and brought me over to the desk. A few words of encouragement and…
3… 2… 1…
The interview itself went pretty well. I was prepared for almost all the questions they asked, except for the last one. It seemed that Marlee saw something in the Acknowledgments section that she wanted me to discuss, but I momentarily zoned on what that said. (Hey, I wrote the thing a long time ago and hadn’t “studied” it.) My hesitation was momentary and I babbled some stuff about the people that helped me along the way. (Unfortunately, I forgot to mention my wife!)
All things considered, it was an enjoyable experience. When I get my next book published, I hope they’ll bring me back again.
